Di Collins

Welcome Di Collins, one of our seven new members. Di has a lovely open personality, and charmed us immediately by saying how much she enjoyed our website! Di found us there while living in Cairns. That's not quite where we'd aimed our website but such is the power of the internet. Di was brought up in Melbourne but has spent much of her life in Sydney working with legal eagles, an impressive 30 years with a great career in a great firm.

On retiring she moved to be with friends in Cairns. Wondering what to do in that sweaty, tropical outpost she went to the local post office and bought four shiney fake boules, thinking "this might just change my life". Well it sort of did! After a year Di returned to Melbourne, her elderly mother is here, joined our Club, donated her post office shineys to charity and now owns a proper set (though there is talk they may still be on a tram somewhere travelling round and round Melbourne?).

What's intriguing about Di? Well, her email to start with - bonjourpossumsatgmail.com. Is she best friends with Barry Humphries? Is this a peculiar French email (careful scribe, not letter, an easy mistake with all the post office talk). Not at all, she is simply a true Francophile. Has been from way back starting with learning French at school, having a father who spoke French and travelling there in her younger days. Many years later Di took French lessons and genuinely loves the French culture. The Monkey says, well that's OK but how would you feel if the farmers kept dumping truckloads of artichokes in your driveway every time they didn't like what Mt Morrison's government does.

In addition to Di's passion about France she also has a serious interest in food. Di loves trying new dishes and new places, writes about it, photographs it and even contributes critiques to Google. Di's other mark of passion is to support the GWS Giants. Will we forgive her? Maybe, so long as they don't get any further up the ladder. Di has had the chance to play a few days at CPC and believes we have magnetic pistes, every time she throws a boule it starts going straight then magically veers off to one side or the other. Welcome to Petanque! Or is Di one of those dark horses who say to you "I am not very good at Petanque" and then shoots the cosh and wins the game.

We'll have to wait and see.
