Andrew & Kanya "Tyred" up in Thailand

Here's a report from Kanya and Andrew on one of  their recent excursions to Thailand

"The Thais really love petanque, and they are bloody good at it too. One youngster goes by the very name ('Betong' in thai).

We were fortunate to play a few night games under bright lights in Tambon Jormtong of Phitsanulok province recently.

They play every night after a hard day's yakka. Our hosts were very hospitable, but showed no mercy on the piste , driving their home ground advantage to give a right drubbing in the gloom.

Seems they only ever point with the first boule of an end and sometimes even then they can't contain the urge to shoot! Sexes play separately, but the women are consigned to a mirey, sloping, unpredictable stretch of dirt out the back.

Somehow Kanya thrived on this terrain, leading a big comeback in her maiden game. Next time I'll have to bring some Vitamin A."
