TEXT EDITION

Autumn is always a wonderful time for our club.

We are hosting some tournaments and we have a fabulous winery tour to look forward to. The winery tour last year was a cracking day. RSVP early so you don’t miss out.

CPC returns to the Yarra Valley

Thursday 11 April

We start the day with a bus ride to the Yarra Valley, leaving Camberwell at 9.30 am sharp.

This year we are going to visit Tokar Estate Winery a family owned and run winery. Tastings are optional, have a coffee on the restaurant deck or stroll through their gardens.

Then we are off to Helen’s Hill Estate for a tasting, charcuterie, pizza and glass of wine for lunch before playing pétanque in the winery garden.

At around 3.30 we will then head off to the Yarra Valley Dairy for a cheese tasting and talk about dairy history. Then, back onto the bus for the trip back to CPC eta 5.45(ish)

We are limited to 24 people. Cost per head. $65.00.

RSVP to Kathy by April 2nd -kathybaker1914@gmail.com

Help needed at the Doubles Tournament 24 March

We are hosting the Doubles Tournament formerly planned for February. There are 37 teams registered (and many more expected) which means lots of hungry players to feed at lunchtime.

Help is required in the kitchen between 9.30  and 2pm. Any time you can give us a hand within those hours will be appreciated. If you can assist please let Kathy know by pressing the button below. It’s always enjoyable to hang out in the kitchen, that’s where the fun people are!

Friday cards continue

Come and play on the last Friday of every month from 3pm. Have fun, learn how to play - our games masters Leigh, Pam or Deidre are happy to show you how.  As usual, petanque play begins at 5.30  or you can play cards throughout the evening as you wish.  The next session is on Friday 29 March.

The mystery of the missing markers

About two weeks ago, the club purchased new magnet markers for the scorers. Unfortunately all but a few have disappeared and we have only just have enough for the upcoming competition. Please check you didn’t mistake any for your coches. If you find any of these runaway markers in your bag please drop them into the box next time you are in. Thanks.

Come along to a piste working bee

Thursday 21st March, starting at 10.00am. We are planning to replace the boundary rope and general maintenance of the playing surface raking, weeding & levelling of the gravel.

To rake or not to rake?

In case you are wondering … please rake the pistes after each game. Raking reduces weeds and keeps the pistes in good playing condition. If you are already a regular raker, many thanks for your good work.

Lunch will be provided.

Lots of improvements and repairs

The wobbly old retaining wall is being repaired by Council, thanks to Wayne for reporting the issue to them.

The drinking fountain near Piste 11 has been restored by one of our newest members Damien Buick (big thanks - this couldn’t have come at a better time in the middle of a heatwave!)

The newly installed timber borders have been treated and stained. Again by Damien. What an effort and again ...Thank You.

The barbeque is still out of action. Its replacement has been ordered and is expected at the end of the month.

The Ladder update

There’s been exciting challenges most notably the 2 hour challenge between Noella and Andrew (Noella 13 Andrew 12). The top 5 remains the same: Mark R retains his place at the top of the ladder. He is followed by Mary D in 2nd Place, Leigh (3rd), Rex (4th) and Trish (5th). For the full story on the ladder challenges, visit our website.

STAY SAFE IN THE HEAT

It’s a great time of the year to play petanque but it’s also important to take extra care on those sunny summer days.

Wear closed-toe shoes to avoid injury, this is a mandatory requirement for play.

Stay hydrated, use our newly repaired drinking fountain.

Seek shade (use our new umbrellas), wear a hat and suitable clothing.

Use sunscreen liberally and reapply often.

Nominations open for the Boroondara Sports Awards

Held annually, the Boroondara Sports Awards program recognises the important role sports clubs play in enhancing community health and wellbeing. Sports clubs and their members can nominate under seven award categories. For more information visit Council’s website.

Welcome our new members

It’s fantastic to see our club thriving and attracting new members. Say hi to Damien, Beth, Claudio, Rosemary and Innes when you see them around the pistes.
