In March, the club is hosting the VPCI Shooting finals and VPCI Singles, this follows an action packed February with the Family & Friends evening and the always popular Intraclub Competition. This month we also have a couple of requests for members to help around the club. If you can, please volunteer, it lightens the load when a job is shared.
Important changes to the upcoming Singles Tournament
Due to the unprecedented number of entries for the Victorian Singles Championships, the women's event will be held at Dove and the men's here at Camberwell.
This means all reserved players are now entered and there is room for more entries. Online registration closes Fri 27 March 2026. Go to My Petanque to register. Don't be put off by the "championship" title of the tournament, there will be players of various skill levels participating. If you haven't tried a singles tournament give it a go.
Both events will be held at the original date and time which is Sunday 29 March 9am for a 9.30am start.
Kitchen helpers needed for the Singles Tournament
The Men's Singles Tournament will be a busy day at the club. The club will be providing catering for officials, players and guests. Can you help out for all or part of the day?
Want to represent CPC in the Metro South Challenge?
The Metro South Challenge Cup will be held on 19 April, venue to be advised. The club will be fielding two teams. To provide an opportunity for selection to all members, we are calling for expressions of interest.
A selection process will then be conducted with the aim of achieving the best possible representation with well balanced teams. Due to expected high demand, registration of interest will not guarantee a place.
We are raising the garden beds on the western perimeter of the pistes to reduce the risk of falls. Council is providing free mulch for this purpose.
We need some helpers to come along on Sunday March 22 at 10am to move the mulch to the garden beds. We only have one wheelbarrow so if you have a wheelbarrow and a shovel please bring it along. If we get a few helpers the job will be finished in a couple of hours.
We had a fantastic Intra Club Tournament last month with 18 teams battling it out over four games. Congratulations to the victors: Damien and Gordana (pictured). Great day had by all.
Thanks to Wayne for preparing the pistes, they were perfect; Paul for setting the draw and scoring and special mention to Bob for organising the whole thing. For more pics go to our facebook page.
Around the Pistes
Ballarat Triples: Congratulation to Ben, Tammie and Frederic for achieving first place what a brilliant result.
Mt Martha Triples: Lyn & Patrick with partner Mee came second at the Mt Martha Triples. Ben, Tammie with Chris Serre came third. Great day for CPC.
Camberwell was well represented at the Coonawarra Classic. Five teams played 6 games in hot conditions on the Saturday and another 4 games on the Sunday. Patrick Defresne & team came 3rd in the Principal, Guy and his team were 3rd in the Complimentere. Great fun had by all. Pictured: The CPC gang at Coonawarra.
Club shooting qualifier: Congrats to Ben who qualified for the Victorian Precision Shooting Competition. Ben, we look forward to seeing you in action.
Thanks for your help
Thanks to the members of the Piste Working Group who spent last Thursday getting rid of leaf matter, moving gravel back to the middle of the pistes and generally tidying up. Great work everyone and thanks to Wayne for organising. The next working bee will be in June.
Thanks to members of the Lynden Park Joint Management Committee for having a working bee to clean all 99 folding chairs in the facility which they were badly soiled. CPC's Pam, Coleen and Marion along with Roslyn and Cristina from the Girl Guides provided the muscle behind the steam cleaners and cleaning cloths.
Nominate a member for the Boroondara Sports Awards
Award nominations are now open. The committee always submits nominations for members who go the extra mile, and you can too. For more information or to make a nomination go to the Council website here. Nominations close at 5 pm on Monday 1 June.
Health and Safety - it's up to everyone
Mind the heat: we provide sunscreen and seats in the shade, please make use of them. Remember to wear a hat and stay hydrated. If you like chilled water, use the billi tap in the kitchen to top up your water bottle. When the temperature is forecast to reach 34 degrees, or higher, play day is automatically cancelled for safety reasons.
Mind your step: there are many trip hazards across the pistes and surrounding areas. Whilst we try to make the areas as safe as possible, we can't eliminate all risks.
Mind your toes: closed toe shoes are a condition of play, dropped boules and bare toes make a painful combination.
If you see a potential hazard around the club, please report the matter to a committee member.
Family and Friends a huge success
What a successful night with nearly 60 members and guests attending The pistes were buzzing as members introduced their friends and family to our favourite game. It was also great to see so many young people having a go.
Thanks to Greg & Gordana for sorting the boules, Wayne for setting up the pistes, Kathy for her usual organising prowess and to Rosalie who was opener for this big night of play. To see pics from the night go to our website or facebook page.
Call for openers
If you are a regular player, please consider becoming a game day coordinator (aka opener). Without our trusty openers we would not have play days. There is flexibility within the rostering and you can swap dates with other openers if needed.
Petanque Australia have released online training free to all club members. They support fair, safe and inclusive play. The modules by Sports Integrity Australia include Integrity, Child Safeguarding and Anti-Doping.
Although not all topics are directly relevent to our club, it provides an opportunity to stay up to date with current issues within sports generally. Take a look by logging in to the training at here. Create an account, and choose petanque as your sport.
