Winter is usually a quiet time, not this year. Coming up, we have our next Intraclub, the Mixed Triples Tournament, some croissants for Bastille day and a fun Music Night. There is also a working bee on Sunday 5 July, please help if you can.
Help us remove the hedge on Sunday 5 July
The low hedge along the front fence has been a nightmare to maintain and blocks the footpath causing a hazard. The three clubs leasing our clubrooms (CPC, Hartwell Girl Guides and Veterans Car Club), are having a working bee on Sunday 5 July starting at 10am to remove the hedge. The plan is to replace it with a low maintenance garden. We ask members to come along with their gardening gear to assist.
Register for the Camberwell Mixed Triples Tournament
Sunday 2 August. Competition begins at 9.30am sharp. The format will be 5 games to be played to 13 points. No finals. Swiss system draws. Cash and wine prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams. A selection of delicious food will be available for purchase. Tea and coffee provided.
A fee of $25 to be paid on the day. Card payment preferred. For more details and to register visit the my petanque website. Registrations close 11:59pm Friday 31 July.
Helpers required for the Mixed Triples
Call to players. Can you help at the beginning or end of the day?
We are asking players to assist because it is a very long day for volunteers and we want to lighten their workload, Without volunteers we can't run tournaments.
The clubrooms will need to be set up on the morning of the competition because the facility is hired for a function the evening before. We are looking for 3 or 4 players to open up, set up tables chairs and set up a coffee/tea station. Helpers will need to arrive at 8.15.
We are also looking for 3 or 4 players at the end of the day to be responsible for closing up. This means packing away chairs and tables, vacuuming the floors, removing any rubbish and locking up. Helpers will need to stay until all players have left the building to ensure security of the site.
If you have a couple of hours to spare, would you be willing to help in the kitchen?
You don't need cooking skills, there are a wide variety of jobs to do. Our catering at tournaments is always appreciated by players and enhances our reputation as a welcoming club. It is also a nice little fundraiser!
Music meisters Leigh and Andy are taking us on musical journey Saturday 8 August at 7pm. Come to a fun evening of listening, singing, dancing, quizzes, games and challenges, prizes and hopefully some mini performances. You might like to dress up in a music theme! Feel free to join in as much or as little as you choose – nothing is a must do.
We would love to have some of our talented members volunteer to perform a song, a dance, play an instrument – individual or group. We also want to hear about your favourite music. Tell Leigh in your RSVP, if you have a favourite song/music piece/musician or if you would like to provide some musical input on the night.
There will be a supper break, please bring a small share plate of finger food for the supper table. BYO drinks.
Arrive at 9:30am, play will start at 10.00am sharp. The format will be the usual 4 games Swiss doubles with a lunch break in the middle. If you don’t wish to play all 4 games, team up with another player and play 2 games each, please form your pair when you register.
New members are encouraged to join in. Doubles teams will be arranged by a seeded draw, less experienced players will be partnered with those who are more experienced to level out the competition. The tournament will be for fun not prizes. This event will replace our normal Saturday play. Members not wishing to take part can play informally on other pistes.
At the end of play, you are invited to stay for wine and nibbles. Registrations close midnight Wednesday 22 July.
Let's celebrate the French National Day during Wednesday play. Wear your best beret or french tricolour outfit. The club will supply some croissants or us all to enjoy. Bonne fête nationale!
Do you have a swipe card to access the club?
The Joint Management Committee is currently running an audit on swipe cards. The reason is that there are many clubs and contractors accessing the building and we want to ensure the records are up to date.
If you have a swipe card, please email Coleen with your name and swipe card number. If you no longer use the card please return the card or let us kniow so it can be cancelled. Thanks in advance.
Well done to those who came along to the working bee last month. Pantry, office, shed and storage room are all looking a lot cleaner and more spacious.
The skip bin was certainly put to good use. Thanks to Rex, Kathy, Richard, Pauline, Matt, Michael, Greg Harris, Noella and especially Wayne who organised the whole thing.
The banner (pictured left) was found during the cleanup, a bit of buried treasure. If anyone knows its history please let us know.
How about our fabulous desk, sanded and revarnished by Damien! That desk was donated many years ago by Terry. It looks brand new again. Thanks Damien.
