We're always social! A good club wouldn't be doing its job if it didn't look after the social aspects as well as the games side. It is an Aim of the Club to provide a welcoming social atmosphere. We'd like to think the Club has a good reputation in this regard, particularly for making new members feel welcome. Here is what we do.
Social Occassions
We usually celebrate on New Year's Day, BBQs on Australia Day or Anzac Day, maybe a Melbourne Cup day. We now have a program of special events such as a theme dinner, wine tasting or trivia night. There are happy hours every month. There are two friendly competitions, the Jolly Roger against Mt Macedon and the Surf & Turf trophy against St Andrews Beach. Sometimes we play with our colleagues at the Council who look after us so well. It doesn't take much to have a good reason for a social match.
Sometimes We Just Feel Like Eating Out!
On a warm summer's night we enjoy sitting outside under one of our shelters watching the sun go down in the west and share a BYO or sometimes a takeaway dinner. We are so lucky to have such beautiful surroundings at Lynden Park, it's almost like being in the country. In fact if you go on Trip Advisor you'll find someone has said this place is a Hidden Oasis!
Club Christmas Dinner
And then there's our Club Christmas dinner which is a great event. Held in early December in our Clubhouse with beautifully decorated tables, the many chefs amongst our Members organise and bring together some great dishes for a memorable evening. The 2019 event set new records with an MC, an accordion player, songs and crazy dances. Not an event to be missed. We even managed a big event in 2020, an outdoor cocktail party which was a great success.
Other Celebrations
It's important our Members feel part of the Club and without being intrusive it's nice to celebrate significant birthdays (no ages mentioned!) acknowledge achievements and be quietly sympathetic in difficult times. It's also nice to know a little more about our Members so from time to time we post articles about people's lives, their interests, their achievements whatever they are happy to share with the membership at large. Every one of us has some interesting stories to tell.
