November Newsletter

CPC News CAMBERWELL PETANQUE CLUB NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2022 Welcome to a jam packed November edition of our newsletter. Friday nights are now more social with "out of the bucket" play, a shooting competition will be held this month for everyone including those of us who can't shoot! For the more competitive minded, we are seeking interest in a competition ladder and preparations have started for our ripper Christmas Party...and so much more. Fridays are now "out of the bucket" We have had a number of members request that our Friday evenings have a more social emphasis. We heard you....from this Friday games will be now out of the bucket. BYO wine and dinner, crank up the barbie if you wish. Now the days are getting longer and the evenings a bit warmer come along for truly convivial evenings of petanque.

Jingle Bells...it's our Christmas Party Our Christmas Party promises to be a wonderful event. A scrumptious Christmas themed dinner will be provided for our members and their partners. All you have to do is bring along your Christmas good cheer and your favourite tipple. (and don't forget to RSVP). Saturday 3 December at 6.30pm RSVP for Christmas Party Join in our shooting challenge This event is open to all members, there will be no prizes, just the prestige of being the club’s best male and best female “Shooter” in 2022. The challenge will be held on Monday 14th November commencing at 6.30 pm. There will be 3 different “shooting challenges”. Points will be awarded for achieving various levels of “success” with each challenge. The overall winners will be the man and woman with the highest number of accumulated points. Robert Pozzobon will be available to offer informal coaching advice during the evening. Come along and test yourself. Many members are reluctant to try and shoot on the clubs play days, this is a chance to do nothing but shoot. You may or may not win but your shooting will surely improve with Robert there to give you some tips. The BBQ will be up and running for those who wish to cook their own dinner. To book your place please click the button below by Wednesday 9th November. I'm up for the shooting challenge

Interested in an intraclub singles ladder? Many sporting clubs have an internal ladder competition allowing players to challenge one another. For the more competition minded of us this may be a welcome addition to our club's activities. It would be run on a purely opt in basis, and would not interfere, or compete, with our current social and competitive playing days. The concept would be that a player could challenge some one above themselves in the ladder to a 1st to 13 game at an agreed time and place (e.g before or after play on a regular club day, at the club on a different day, even at a different venue). If the challenger wins they displace the loser (and everyone below) down a place. There would be rules in regard how far above you challenges could be made. This would be for “fun” not status or prizes. We would need a minimum of 8-10 players to make it viable. If it were divided by gender then that number would be required in each division. Bob is the organiser so if you are interested please let him know by selecting the button below.... and also provide your preference for a mixed or separate ladies/gents ladders. The piste works are completed The piste lines are laid and the fixed scorers have been fitted and weather proofed. What wonderful improvements. The pistes lines are working well and the fixed scorers make keeping track of games so much easier. By the way, openers, don't forget to put out the magnetic scorers. Thanks to Max, Bob, Paul and Wayne.

CPC wonderful at Weird Camberwell were well represented at the Weird Masters Open Doubles tournament on the weekend of October 29/30. This is a major interstate competition with 28 mens teams and 12 womens teams coming from 5 states. Myriam Parsons, Antoine Buffet, Vincenz Mueller and Bob Hutchinson played, and Guy Mercier was the highly respected umpire. Myriam was the star. She and her partner Ros Allen were runners up in the Ladies Principale i.e the main game, and the Vinz/Bob partnership lost in the final of the 12 team sociale. So two Camberwell teams flying the flag on the podium. This was a greatly enjoyable event comprising 10 - 11 matches over the weekend.

Support the Triples at Camberwell. There is still time to put in a team! Its fun!

Cup Day Celebration The wet weather didn't dampen the Cup Day Spirit at our club. What a big turn out! That welcome glass of bubbly really set the scene. Everyone got into the Cup Day vibe and some rather smart millinery was on show. The indoor games were great fun and we even had a little celebration for Margaret's birthday. The sweep added some extra excitement to the race for us all. Great job Leigh and Kathy for organising such an entertaining indoor Cup Day event.
