Updated openers roster

Thanks to those generous members who have volunteered as openers over the last couple of weeks. This has led to changes to the calendar sent earlier in the month. All openers, please check out the updated roster (Events Calendar) here

We are still looking for more members to help out.  You will get training so you will be well prepared. Press the button below to volunteer or to find out more.

Yes! I would like to be a games day opener

Process for cancelling play days

The committee suggests that game openers can make the decision to cancel when it's too wet or hot to play. Remember this doesn't stop those die hard members who still want to get their petanque fix, they can come along for an informal game.

Notifying members of cancellation
Openers can SMS members directly using the club SMS account, or call or text Paul, Rex or Coleen and they will send an SMS to members on your behalf. Openers who would like access to the club SMS broadcast account (it's easy to use) please let us know using the feedback button at the bottom of the newsletter.

New piste line markers

You may have noticed we are trialing some different types of piste line markers at the club. We found the best solution to be taut string lines that are secured at close intervals.

These will provide an accurate and safe way to mark the pistes and will be fitted by the end of October. They will also get us "competition ready" for the Victorian Triples in November. Thanks to Max who has done an amazing job. More about Max's many talents below....

Here's Max and the new piste lines.

A man of many talents

Apart from inventing the Boule Tool, organising and designing the string lines for the pistes, CPC member Max Thomas (pictured above) has composed a piece of music to run behind his video on the Boule Tool. He has called it; “ The Petanque Waltz”.

Written, composed and all instruments played by Max, it demonstrates some of the multi talents he has. How many other members have hidden talents?  Check out Max’s music on the home page of our Website.

Learn how to use Max's famous Boole Tool. Measure accurately and avoid knocking the boules or the jack.  You won't need your glasses and save your knees! What could be better -  here is the video.

Permanent scorers are coming

Following positive feedback from members, the  committee has decided to affix the temporary scorers to the pistes permanently and weatherproof them.

The magnetised markers will brought out for use by the game day openers. All the scorers are expected to be fitted in time for the VPCI triples in November.

We won an award for innovation

CPC has won the Innovative Club of the Year at the 2022 Boroondara Sports Awards for its new members drive. Congratulations to all Club members who participated in this program. Special mention to Keven who was a driving force of this campaign.

Thanks to everyone who accepted the interruption to normal play to accommodate such a large influx of new members. All members should be proud of this award. Lots of work, lots of new members and still the Club retained its welcoming, wonderful, character. In fact it has been enhanced by the addition of our newer members.

Giving back to the community...can you help?

We have been approached by Caulfield South Community House (CSCS) to host a Petanque Day on 6 October in the grounds of their neighborhood house. The activity is part of the CSHS Seniors week and will consist of 2 games of petanque on 2 "pistes" with lunch in between.

Whilst this is a great way for us to support Seniors Week it also gives us the opportunity to promote the club and recruit new members... and have some fun doing it. If you would like to help out or find out more please select the feedback button at the bottom of the newsletter.
